ā€œIntegrating geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering into the structural and civil engineering allows clients to fully leverage the power of an integrated approach, adding value from foundations to roof. ā€

As Geotechnical Director, Richard is responsible for the delivery of geotechnical and geo-environmental services within Walsh. Richard has wide ranging experience in geotechnical analysis, piling design and site investigation alongside geo-environmental analysis including contaminated land for human health risk assessment.

Prior to joining Walsh, Richard worked with our team for over 15 years and was part of the steering committee for CIRIA C796: Assessing the impacts of construction-induced ground movement on framed buildings and authored/co-authored three published papers on ground movement. Of particular note is his work on the initial scheming and analysis for the Claridgeā€™s Hotel deep basement extension and on a hotel with a nine-storey basement in Turkey which needed to withstand earthquakes.

Richard has implemented state of the art geotechnical analysis techniques within Walsh, these are used to optimise temporary works and foundations and to determine ground movements caused by the development. He believes that early involvement and influence on project feasibility and scheming is the key to driving value into projects, particularly where viability is challenging, and informing the design at an early stage.
