Walshās practical and construction-oriented approach was effectively applied on this constrained inner-city site, ensuring minimal disruption to the area during the project. Walsh were commissioned to develop the residential blocks spread across four towers between 10 and 25 storeys high, which included a mix of studios, one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments and penthouses, as well as a deep basement and a hotel.
The site was situated in a constrained location, surrounded by numerous transportation links and existing infrastructure. We supported our client in seeking approvals for sewer diversions and party walls, and worked with TfL and LUL to gain their approvals. Being adjacent to a London Underground station meant we had to sequence the construction and coordinate with these local transport authorities on a daily basis.
We designed complex foundations to bridge services and sequence works, and suggested a temporary works solution. We also developed a fast-paced programme using BIM, which enabled seamless coordination with the architects.
Finally, through detailed analysis at the design stage, using our bespoke in-house Embodied Carbon Assessment Tool, Walsh identified opportunities to reduce embodied carbon by 26%, to 250 kg of carbon per square metre.

Sustainability is in our DNA and we have our own ambitious goals to achieve Net Zero as a business and with our designs. With innovative in-house monitoring tools, Walsh clients have seen on average reductions of 10-20% total embodied carbon, with some of our flagship work achieving 60-70% reductions compared with baseline figures.
