ICE Renews Accreditation of Walsh Professional Development Scheme

Walsh has had the accreditation of its training scheme renewed by The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

The Walsh Professional Development Scheme is reviewed regularly by the ICE and provides support to graduates wishing to attain professional membership with the ICE or IStructE.

“With the ever increasing demand for engineering excellence, it is vital to continually extend the skills of our engineers,” comments Ian Welsh BEng(Hons), CEng, MIStructE, Managing Director of Walsh. “It is only by investing in the professional skills and development of our engineers that we can deliver the kind of elegant and buildable solutions that Walsh is renowned for.”

The Walsh Professional Development Scheme is focused on providing engineers with a broad range of skills and attributes in fields such as commercial, legal, sustainability, health and safety, leadership and management thereby providing the initial professional development required for both ICE and IStructE.

Graduate engineers are supported through lunchtime workshops and advice from the moment they join the company with all engineers encouraged to officially apply and participate once they have had 12 months of professional experience.

Once enrolled, members are provided with a Delegated Engineer as a guide and mentor. A Supervising Civil Engineer will then review the work they generate and provide sign-off upon achieving the required standard.

Additional support is given with mock interviews for those wishing to progress with the ICE Professional Review and exam preparation for those pursuing the IStructE.

The Walsh Professional Development Scheme is fully paid for by Walsh including reimbursement of fees for membership of appropriate institutions and up to 8 days of approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses.
