We are delighted to have been shortlisted in the Structural Awards 2023 for our work on 9 Millbank.
9 Millbank is a luxury residential led mixed-use development which was a hybrid refurbishment, reuse and rebuild project on a historical and complex site.
It required our engineers to employ a comprehensive range of structural engineering skills to deliver the clientās vision. We had to challenge the status quo and undertake a journey into engineering history and negotiate with third parties whilst designing out complications through innovative foundations and lightweight structures. As well as the structural design, we conducted complex site investigations, designed remediation solutions and specified innovative products.
This delivered significant cost, programme and sustainability savings to the client, St Edward, as well preventing possible disruption to significant Westminster buildings. The project is being used as an exemplar project to educate students and industry titans on the benefits of the circular economy.
The judges commented:
“The team fully embraced the circular economy approach by reusing and repurposing all of the existing 9 Millbank building instead of just retaining the faƧade. They respected, retained and reused ground structures of historical engineering significance including the superstructure and power station substructure, documenting these for generations to come. Thorough research yielded impactful outcomes. The project team have demonstrated excellence in research and site investigation which minimised risks, reduced costs, reduced programme and deliver a more sustainable approach.”
